How is money raised?
Community Fundraising
Our PTA raises money through fundraising events, including generous donations from local businesses and

parents. We also aim to hold a couple of big events each school year – for example, a Christmas Fair

in the winter, and a Summer Fair.

Other more regular PTA events may include...

School uniform sales

School disco

Cake Sale Friday's

Dress-up days

Dress-down days

Mad hair day

Pyjama day

Film night

Book character day, etc.

The Local Fundraising Team also look at sponsorship for our events (such as a banner on the fence in exchange for goods/cash).
We are always looking for new fundraising ideas, so please get in touch with your suggestions.

Corporate Fundraising
This team are looking at obtaining funding from bigger sources, such as large "Blue Chip" businesses and charitable foundations. Grants of between £500 to £25,000 are our possible targets. We can offer a range of benefits including listing on our Sponsors Page, and meta-tagged images/brand logos with links to the donor's site.

Match Funding
Do you work for a company that provides "Match Funding"? Most large companies offer this to employees, where they will match any money raised from fundraising by their staff (usually up to £1000 pa), provided you were involved in the fundraising event. Please check with your employer if this can be obtained. See this list for examples.

How can you help with fundraising?
All parents/carers/grand-parents are welcome to help with fundraising!

We always need lots of donations for cake sales, so get baking or get a cake shop to donate some goodies. For the Christmas and Summer Fairs we need donations of bric-a-brac, DVD's, computer games, good quality household items.

Maybe you're great at encouraging support from local businesses....every little helps. Some suggested ideas:

Voucher from a local health club, hairdresser, beauty salon

Voucher for a free meal at a restaurant (could be a local eaterie, or a chain such as Pizza Hut, Nando's)

Encourage a hotel to offer a free weekend stay

A supermarket to donate some food and drinks

A department store to donate some gift vouchers

Unwanted goodies such as computer games and games consoles

Perhaps a limousine company can offer a voucher for free limo for a few hours, or a taxi driver a free ride

Free paint-balling for a group of friends

Bowling, ice skating, cinema tickets

A yummy box of cakes or Krispy Kreme doughnuts for Cakes Sale Friday's

Tickets for theatre shows, activities, sporting events

A business to give us £ cash... in exchange we can put a banner up saying they've sponsored us

Local estate agent puts their board up saying "Summer Fair sponsored by....", and they give us £ cash

Get a DJ to offer their service for free at one of our events

Do you know a solicitor that could donate a free Will Writing Service?

So get creative! If we don't ask, we don't get, so don't be shy about asking around for donations.

We can provide you with PTA business cards, and also a standard letter for handing to them, or e-mailing.

We know that time is scarce for may, so don't forget the Class Rep's... they can listen to your ideas, and bring them along to the meeting on your behalf. And you can always e-mail us with comments to info@school-pta.co.uk or use the contact form.

Who looks after the money raised?
All PTA funds are deposited in our PTA bank account, which is totally separate from the school account. The PTA Treasurer maintains a budget summary sheet, which includes money on hand, priorities for spending, and closing balance. This is available to view any time on this site via this link.
We encourage all parents to offer suggestions on how to spend this fund.

How are the PTA funds spent?
Funds raised by your PTA are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make kids learning more interesting and exciting, or to create memorable events.

The PTA committee (in conjunction with the school management) decide how to spend PTA funds. Typical things include study materials, playground equipment, a summer party, theatre visits, school disco, leaver books, book-readings from authors, visits from theatre groups, or perhaps smaller purchases such as presents for Father Christmas to distribute.

School trips can be considered for funding, but normal school trips continue to be funded partly by the school, and partly by parent contributions. Don't forget, we always need parent volunteers to come on the trips to support the teachers.

Larger donations from "Blue Chip" companies or Charitable sources may be targetted for bigger capital projects (for example, converting the school basement into a new activity space).

Charitable Giving
We want our kids to support charities from a young age, so at least two events each year will raise money specifically for good causes. Perhaps a cake sale for CAFOD, a fun Red Nose Day to raise money for Comic Relief, and a Jeans For Genes day. These will often be supported by special assemblies in school. We will also usually have a bucket collection for a nominated charity at our two big events.

eBay account
We may sometimes put valuable/ unique items onto or PTA eBay account. See below for the latest updates, or find us at: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/st.edwards.school-pta
